What is LA ROSA Colours Limewash Paint?
LA ROSA Colours Limewash Paint is made using a simple elemental cycle of earth, fire, water and air.
Our paints work differently. We make them with clay, minerals and beautiful natural pigments. Limewash is a thin layer of limestone that dries on your wall by absorbing carbon dioxide from the air, just as plants do.
LA ROSA Colours Limewash Paint has zero V.O.C.* and is made from natural, renewable resources. With a PH level of 14, it is free from biocides, formaldehydes and preservatives, while offering natural antibacterial qualities. Our paints are also suitable for high-humidity environments.
Limewash is not film-forming and therefore is not prone to blistering or peeling, even in high-humidity environments such as bathrooms. LA ROSA Colours Limewash Paint is made from natural materials, making it different from conventional low- or zero-V.O.C.* paints.
You can even paint and sleep in the room on the same day.
How are LA ROSA Colours Limewash Colours Created?
LA ROSA Colours uses natural pigments sourced from around the world to create a range of colours that celebrate the innate and natural beauty of pigments.
We do not rely on tinting machines or industrial colour-matching processes. Instead, we draw on years of experience and a refined eye for colour creation. Our colours are especially inspired by nature, where everything we need to understand about colour can be found.
As the paint cures, millions of micro-crystals form, creating a unique luminosity and depth of colour. Limewash paints have been used for centuries to preserve our built environment. They are also particularly well suited to exterior applications because they do not alter the permeability of the wall surface—moisture can freely escape, allowing walls to continue to “breathe.”
Not all limewash paints are created equal. At LA ROSA Colours, we are passionate about what we make, and we believe what we leave out of our limewash is just as important as what we put in.
Can I Paint with Limewash Paint in Bathrooms?
Yes. LA ROSA Colours Limewash Paint is suitable for high-humidity environments. The paint is not film-forming and is therefore not prone to blistering or peeling, even in humid spaces such as bathrooms.
Our paint is also naturally antibacterial and resistant to mould. It can be used on walls and ceilings, except inside showers or in areas immediately adjacent to a bath.
We recommend using a splashback behind sinks and toilets, as limewash is absorbent and can become stained by products such as toothpaste.
LA ROSA Colours Limewash Paint is not a waterproofing material, but it is water-resistant.
Can I Paint with Limewash Paint in Kitchens?
Yes. LA ROSA Colours Limewash Paint can be used throughout a kitchen, except in areas where it may come into direct contact with fat, oil or grease—for example, behind a stove—as these substances may discolour the paint.
I Got Lime Bloom or White Spots on the Surface. Why Did This Happen and How Can I Fix It?
There are two common reasons for lime bloom:
- The paint was applied in cold conditions: This can occur when the room or surface temperature is around 5°C or lower. Wait for warmer conditions or heat the room, then apply one additional quick coat.
- The paint was worked too hard with the brush: This can happen when there is not enough paint on the brush and the same area is brushed for too long. Apply one additional quick coat and allow the bristles to do the work. Hold the brush at a right angle to the wall, apply the paint swiftly and avoid excessive pressure.
